CPSC & Other U.S. Briefs

REINS: HR 26 passed the House 237-187 January 5. It is with the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. It would subject certain regulations to post-legislative congressional votes and other mandates. PSL provided the wrong bill number in a prior edition (1/9/17). Meanwhile, a related bill, HR 5, on rulemaking analyses and judicial review passed 238-183 January 11.

Flooring: CPSC members are slated to vote by January 18 on a draft letter (bit.ly/2jo5YJZ) explaining to the National Floor Safety Institute why the commission denied (PSL, 12/12/16) its petition for slip-resistance labels.

Football: There were 28 traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries among high school and college players in 2005-2014 according to CDC in the January 6 Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (bit.ly/2jIKyKZ).

Lead: EPA's January 10 report, A Science-Based Public Health Approach for Continued Progress in Reducing Lead Exposure, addresses the need for a "long-term concerted effort that addresses all current and historic sources." Learn more and download a copy via bit.ly/2j5caXn.
