CPSC & Other U.S. Briefs

Britax: CPSC's Federal Register publication of its complaint (PSL, 2/19/18) against Britax to force a recall of jogging strollers is at bit.ly/2F7ew2e. The issue is detaching wheels.

 

Upholstered Furniture: CPSC March 1 posted a teaser for its "tech to tech" meeting May 16 at its Rockville, Md. lab. It said more details would be available by April 2, but Andrew Lock is the contact: alock@cpsc.gov.

 

Animal Tests: CPSC members voted 4-0 to fix omissions in rules at 16-CFR-1500 (PSL, 2/26/18). The updates will be effective April 30 absent significant negative input (due March 29), according to the Federal Register (bit.ly/2F4K1yb).

 

ATVs: CPSC's final rule incorporating updates to SVIA's voluntary standards provisions on stop lamps and reflectors is in the February 27 Federal Register (bit.ly/2oAXeEu). CPSC is accommodating industry with a January 1, 2019 effective date (PSL, 2/26/18). Commissioners approved the rule 4-0.

 

Phthalates: CPSC got no adverse comments on revisions to exemption determinations (PSL, 2/5/18) to reflect its final content rule. Thus, updates are effective April 25. The lone comment (bit.ly/2ozOrma) was laudatory.

 

BPA: Comments from FDA on a recent National Toxicology Program report that called into question toxicity concerns for food-contact products are available at bit.ly/2F5WOvY.

 

Regulatory Burdens: An OMB report getting attention in the general press for showing that benefits exceed cost is available at bit.ly/2t6BxRj.
