PIRG Calls on Claire's to Recall Makeup

U.S. PIRG March 13 renewed its attention to Claire's makeup over asbestos allegations. The consumer group asserted (bit.ly/2Gx5ey3) that its testing found from 61,500 to 153,800 fibers-per-gram in three products. It tested 15. It called on the company to conduct a recall, and it pushed back on concerns from Claire's about the testing method, publishing an explanation (bit.ly/2tS3Gfl).

In January (PSL, 1/8/18), Claire's began accepting customer returns after related allegations. However, it also released negative test findings by a third-party lab. At the time (PSL, 1/15/18) PIRG called for more FDA oversight. There are reports that the company might file for bankruptcy soon.
