EC Wants Ideas for Rules on Sustainable/Safe Batteries

Comment by February 6 on a draft EC program aimed at increasing access to high-performance yet safe and sustainable batteries. The goal is to address two challenges.

 

First is the increasing demand for batteries, meaning rising exposure (safety) and disposal (sustainability) issues. Second is dependence on raw materials from unstable third countries.

 

The EC seeks input on five possible tracks: no action, industry self-regulation, minimum energy performance mandates, minimum sustainability mandates, and sourcing mandates. Learn more at bit.ly/2H4AmsP.
