Input Favors UK Allowing EU Machinery Rules

Keep recognizing EU machinery requirements said most respondents to an UK inquiry. The Office for Product Safety & Standards (OPSS) February 25 wrote (bit.ly/4rghDeK) that there thus are plans for legislation to continue CE mark recognition both generally and in Northern Ireland, which has special considerations for its open border with Ireland.

However, OPSS cautioned that "full replication or 'alignment' is not possible." Reasons included reporting duty differences, need to use UK labs, and the UKCA mark.

Moreover, future limitations might involve matters like cybersecurity challenges and the integration of artificial intelligence into machinery products.

The agency sought the input last summer (PSL, 8/11/25).
