UK Advises on Recalls Involving Asbestos

The UK Environment Agency February 27 outlined what companies must do with recalled products containing trace amounts of asbestos. It advised (bit.ly/4uueECj):

  • Store and de-package only items on the UK's recalls and product safety reports list (bit.ly/4b9xdCO).
  •

  • Do so only if the manufacturer, distributor or retailer of those products.
  •

  • Refrain from removing sand that contains asbestos from its primary packing. (Recent recalls involved such sand.)
  •

  • Store items for no longer than three months.
  •

  • Do nothing else besides storing, sorting, or de-packaging.
