Consumer Reports Points to Changes It Prompted at E-Commerce SitesConsumer Reports in February detailed cases of successfully getting Amazon and Temu to address safety concerns with products sold on those platforms. Both companies took down listings of items like water beads and crib bumpers, and they committed to "strengthening their processes for ensuring these products are not allowed to be sold."
Amazon added requirements that pacifier listings must comply with packaging warning mandates, and it made changes regarding sizing and flammability of children's pajamas.
Temu updated its safety alerts and recalls listings in a way the advocacy group deemed to be "more accessible," and it added a prohibited products list. It also linked personalized recall notices to purchase histories. Other changes involved BPA testing/documentation and safety information on listings for pacifiers and cribs.
Generally, the report (bit.ly/4cvyvui) was a scorecard for those platforms plus those of Target and Walmart on various matters such as providing safety information, listings of banned/restricted/recalled products, seller policies and contact information. It took a negative view of using terms like "CPSIA certified" and "CPSIA certification" as misleading. |
