Lorenze Takes Commission Seat, Brubaker Becomes Executive Director

Commissioner Brien Lorenze was sworn in September 8. This followed Commissioner Karen Sessions being sworn in August 19. The Senate confirmed them August 7. Lorenze had been CPSC executive director, and the agency September 10 announced (bit.ly/4r8RQ9F) that Paul Brubaker took over that role.

Brubaker came from Commence, where he was chief mission officer. CPSC said the company focuses "on the integration of data, AI, and clinical healthcare expertise" and that Brubaker "advised federal health agencies on strategies to improve mission performance and health outcomes." Prior, he held numerous executive positions at various federal agencies. He has a BA in political science and history from Youngstown State and an MPA from Kent State.

With Lorenze and Sessions joining Acting Chairman Peter Feldman, CPSC has a quorum. The agency celebrated that milestone with a press release (bit.ly/4dvdzTB) that contained remarks from Feldman, such as:

"CPSC continues to deliver unprecedented enforcement results, accelerate technology and operational modernization, and break new ground in our mission to protect American families from harmful consumer products."

Feldman had been acting as a solo leader for just over a year (PSL, 9/1/25).
