Howsare to Leave CPSC; Kaye to Be Chief of Staff

Matt Howsare, CPSC chief of staff and chief counsel to Chairman Inez Tenenbaum, will leave CPSC May 29. He will join the product safety practice at the Washington, D.C. office of Mintz Levin. Elliot Kaye, now deputy chief of staff and senior counsel to the chairman, will replace Howsare.

CPSC’s press release on the change praised Howsare as “instrumental in establishing a modern agenda and global vision for the agency. He had an executive role in implementing the Chairman’s product safety priorities, developing the agency’s regulatory agenda, and working with key agency stakeholders to advance consumer safety.”

Howsare joined the agency (PSL, 7/20/09, p. 6) soon after Tenenbaum’s arrival, originally serving as special assistant. Before coming to the agency, he was with Nelson Mullins in Columbia, S.C. He holds a 2007 law degree from the University of South Carolina and a 2004 BA in government studies from Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C.

Kaye joined CPSC in 2010 (PSL, 10/18/10, p. 4), originally serving as special assistant and senior legal counsel. He came from the Washington, D.C. office of Hogan Lovells. He holds a 2004 law degree from New York University and a 1991 BS in journalism from Northwestern University.
