Stakeholders Express Concern about Fast-Track Recalls

CPSC’s fast-track recall program has slowed noticeably, charge numerous people familiar with the process. They report upticks in requests for more information and other pushback from compliance officers when companies seek such recalls. They note earlier and more involvement by agency lawyers in negotiations.

Their worries range from lost incentive for using the program to the appearance at least of CPSC staff seeking information for building cases. When presented with these concerns, CPSC reacted strongly and sternly, including suggesting that some of the charges are “misinformation.”
