CPSC & Other U.S. BriefsCar Seats: Evenflo February 26 recalled 56,247 Transitions 3-in-1 combination booster seats because children can access and loosen an internal harness. They sold December 2014 to January 2016. The company is providing new seat pads and central front adjuster assemblies.
Hook-On Chairs: Commissioners are slated to vote by March 8 on a draft final rule to adopt as a mandatory, without changes, ASTM F1235-15, Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Portable Hook-On Chairs. See the briefing package at bit.ly/1TbKoXu.
Architectural Glazing: Commissioners are set to vote by March 8 on a draft final rule to update test methods at 16 CFR 1204 with the 2015 version of ANSI Z97.1, Safety Glazing Materials Used in Buildings – Safety Performance Specifications and Methods of Test, as urged by commenters (PSL, 8/3/15). A 2012 petition (PSL, 8/27/12) had sought use of the 2009 version, but a standard update in the meantime prompted even the petitioner to seek the 2015 edition. Find the briefing package at 1.usa.gov/1LCaTD6.
FoIA Logs: CPSC February 29 began proactively making these long-existing lists available on its website. They identify the requestors (though some are omitted, presumably for privacy), the requested information, and the requesting and closing dates. The move is a response to an internal inspector general report that found faults in proactive release and other areas (PSL, 10/5/15). Available now are two logs: for all of calendar 2015 and for calendar 2016 so far. Find them at 1.usa.gov/1L6Ggpe.

Upholstered Furniture: Commissioner Ann Marie Buerkle's statement on adding TB-117 analysis to the FY 2016 Operating Plan is at 1.usa.gov/21JKIhE.

State Chemicals Bills: SaferStates February 22 updated its prediction/tracking information, including focus on disclosure, flame retardants, lead, bisphenol-A, cadmium, and others. Learn more at bit.ly/21GkMXO.
Third Party Testing: The Export Inspection Council of India used CPSC's solicitation of comments for OMB information collection reapproval to voice concerns about burdens placed on factories, including need to hire consultants, recordkeeping, and training. It sought consultation with CPSC to discuss the matters. Download the agency's comments from 1.usa.gov/219yvRl.
Concussion Surveillance: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention February 26 gave details of its request for $5 million to be included in its FY2017 budget to create a system. Goals include obtaining national sports-related injury estimates as well as estimates of the number of people disabled from brain injuries, monitoring trends, and informing health providers. Read its description at 1.usa.gov/1TUYP16.
Off-Highway Vehicles: Consumer Federation of America's March 1 video describing the growth of state laws and bills to allow use on paved roads is at bit.ly/1QuaAqO.
