An ASTM F15.71 group March 14 discussed having two events during 2016 to promote packaging and poison prevention issues. These follow the roundtable discussion coinciding with a recent ICPHSO meeting in Washington, D.C. Last fall, the group decided to showcase its work in responding to the emerging hazard from laundry packets (PSL, 10/19/15).
Still not set, events might involve:
- A mid-summer or early-fall session, possibly a webinar rather than a live event, might target poison education effectiveness. The group decided to exclude August due to the prominence of vacations that month.
- A November seminar in Chicago would correspond with the Pack Expo. The topic might be what one member, a lab representative, described as an increasing desire to use PPPA provisions for disparate products such as liquid nicotine, marijuana, and button/coin cell batteries. That can present challenges as the law might not fit them easily. The Pack Expo, focuseds on packaging and processing, is co-located with the Pharma Expo, so the panel anticipates a large number of people who would be interested.
