ASTM Laundry Packet Group Starts Plans for More Events

An ASTM F15.71 group March 14 discussed having two events during 2016 to promote packaging and poison prevention issues. These follow the roundtable discussion coinciding with a recent ICPHSO meeting in Washington, D.C. Last fall, the group decided to showcase its work in responding to the emerging hazard from laundry packets (PSL, 10/19/15).

Still not set, events might involve:

  • A mid-summer or early-fall session, possibly a webinar rather than a live event, might target poison education effectiveness. The group decided to exclude August due to the prominence of vacations that month.
  •

  • A November seminar in Chicago would correspond with the Pack Expo. The topic might be what one member, a lab representative, described as an increasing desire to use PPPA provisions for disparate products such as liquid nicotine, marijuana, and button/coin cell batteries. That can present challenges as the law might not fit them easily. The Pack Expo, focuseds on packaging and processing, is co-located with the Pharma Expo, so the panel anticipates a large number of people who would be interested.
