CPSC Gives Pre-Recall Advice about a Second Samsung Product

CPSC September 28 again took a rare step of advising consumers about a product likely to be the subject of an upcoming recall. Both occurrences involved Samsung: previously its Galaxy Note7 smartphones (PSL, 9/19/16) and now its top-loading clothes washers that have been the targets of general press stories using adjectives like exploding.

CPSC's brief statement (bit.ly/2dCP2wW) noted that it is negotiating a remedy with the company and that affected models were made from March 2011 to April 2013. It advised, "[C]onsumers should only use the delicate cycle when washing bedding, water-resistant and bulky items. The lower spin speed in the delicate cycle lessens the risk of impact injuries or property damage due to the washing machine becoming dislodged."
