EC Launches Machinery Directive Consultation

The European Commission, until 16 December, is holding a public consultation on the Machinery Directive. It aims to assess the experiences of stakeholders including businesses, consumers, public authorities, notified bodies and standardisation bodies about compliance with health and safety requirements and identification and removal of unsafe machinery from the market.

The consultation (bit.ly/2dcBOep) also seeks perceptions of how the machinery sector has altered over the last 10 years covering issues such as the cost of ensuring machinery is safe, user confidence in machinery safety and the amount of non-compliant machinery on the market.

The directive governs the harmonisation of health and safety requirements for machinery. Products falling within its include machinery intended for use by professionals and consumers including hand-held power tools, industrial machinery and electrical gardening machinery.
