ASTM Bath Seat Panel Considers 'Or Equivalent' Option for Soap

Members of an ASTM F15.20 task group January 9 decided they would draft updated language related to soap solutions. The issue is ensuring future access to the solution specified for testing. Certain Aveeno and Johnson products can be used, but there was concern that those might go off the market or be reformulated at some future dates. Teleconference participants quickly settled on allowing "or equivalent" options. A member will draft language offline.

The issue arose early last year (PSL, 3/6/17) due to concern about the ability of testers to make the solution as specified. Outreach to seek more detailed information on ingredients was unsuccessful. Thus, members are taking the "or equivalent" route. At last year's meeting, members heard that there was an existing stock of the standard solution and that it likely would last for years and could be shared.

The panel also heard from CPSC staff about work, including diagrams, related to test rigs.
