ACCC Reports on Alcohol Burner Surveillance

The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) earlier in January reported it found 14 decorative alcohol fueled products that did not meet that nation's requirements. The results stemmed from ACCC's compliance review in summer 2017. That effort touched 170 stores in New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia.

Most of the products (12) did not reach consumers, so simply had to be withdrawn from sale. Two required recalls. Ethanol burners by Earth and Stone Outdoor Centres (PSL, 10/12/17) could be refilled while lit and were too light to be stable. Round ethanol burners by WaterGarden Warehouse (PSL, 11/13/17) could be refilled while lit.

The agency pointed companies to its advice page on such products: bit.ly/2Flh0KO.
