CPSC & Other U.S. Briefs

Firearms: HR 5162, introduced March 5 by Rep. Robin Kelly (D-Ill.), would remove the prohibition against CPSC regulation under the CPSA. It is with the Commerce Committee.

Consumers: CPSC targeted a different issue each day during the March 5-9 Consumer Protection Week – avoiding infant sleep clutter and back-to-sleep practices; fire issues like smoke alarms, cooking practices, and escape plans; pool protections like supervision, barriers/covers, and training; protections against tipping furniture and TVs; and learning of and responding to recalls. See more at bit.ly/2oR9IYZ.

Whistleblowers: CPSC recently updated its information to reflect 2017 changes to the Whistleblower Protection Act specifying that protections on medical record access now are among prohibited personnel practices covered by the law. These protections are for federal workers. Read the update at bit.ly/2oP1K2y.
