Amazon: Three Democratic Senators asked (bit.ly/2krxKKX) the company to explain product safety practices. This was in response to a Wall Street Journal article on finding many problematic products on the site. They sought answers by September 26 on issues like identifying and stopping sales of recalled products, ensuring mandated warnings are displayed, compliance with rules and standards, analytics, and more. They were Sens. Richard Blumenthal (Conn.), Edward Markey (Mass.), and Robert Menendez (N.J.). Doors/Windows: Comment by September 30 on a draft EC proposal (bit.ly/2k6o60e) for RoHS exemptions related to lead cadmium in PVC frame made from recycled materials. The issue is that use of production of virgin material uses more energy and natural resources, and the environmental costs might outweigh the safety and environmental benefits. E-Cigarettes: CDC and FDA explained (Link Textbit.ly/2kue0pV) they are looking at least 215 cases of respiratory illness in 25 states with one death. Product safety problems are possible, including contaminants in the devices or the liquids. They also are trying to pin down brands involved but also warned of street sales of liquids with THC/CBD. Meanwhile, Health Canada said it is not aware of similar incidents in that nation (bit.ly/2m2SYiP).
