House Passes Three Bills That Would Direct CPSC Actions

The House September 17 passed three CPSC-related bills, all by voice votes. All are far from becoming laws, still needing Senate action, any reconciliation, and signature.

  • Carbon Monoxide: HR 1618 would set up a CPSC grant program to aid state activities.
  •

  • Clothing Storage Units: HR 2211 would direct CPSC to create a rule to address tipovers.
  •

  • Portable Fuel Containers: HR 806 would direct CPSC to require flame mitigation devices.

They were among six CPSC bills that the Commerce Committee sent to the floor last summer (PSL, 7/22/19). The others involved adopting California's TB 117-2013 for upholstered furniture flammability (HR 2647), banning crib bumpers (HR 3170), and banning inclined sleepers (HR 3172).

A seventh on fast track recalls (HR 3169) awaits committee vote.
