Ikea Tells CPSC to Expand Ages for Anchor It! Survey

CPSC should expand the target ages for a survey on its Anchor It! campaign, Ikea urged. The reason is that the effort started in 2015, so the agency might get data on children who were affected in the early days but now are older. CPSC's proposed survey target was 600 parents or caregivers of children 0-5 years; Ikea recommended 0-9.

This advice came in the company's comments on the proposed survey (PSL, 8/5/19). It was the only entity to give input. Other suggestions (bit.ly/2khkgkO) by Ikea included:

  • CPSC should seek separate information on the three main products targeted by the campaign: dressers, TVs, and large furniture. It also should try to understand when consumers secured items versus when they got the advice.
  •

  • CPSC should similarly seek separate information for the different sources of information like ad, media story, or PSA. It also should position source questions above the anchoring questions to avoid influencing the latter.
