SPSP Names First Certified Product Safety Professionals

Six people were in the first group of Certified Product Safety Professionals announced January 24 by the Society of Product Safety Professionals (SPSP). The designation refers to completion of a course that focuses on how five topics can affect product safety: company culture, risk assessment/product assurance, regulatory compliance, incident and data management, and product recall design/management.

SPSP launched two year ago (PSL 2/20/17) at the annual meeting of the International Consumer Product Health and Safety Organization (ICPHSO). The society will hold a ceremony at this year's ICHPHO, February 18-21, to recognize the recipients: Michelle Balliet, Crayola; Melissa Cairns, 3M; Kristin Cordz, Market Actives; Shelia Gottschalk, Hallmark; Kimberly Horne, Walmart; and Brenda Torres, SC Johnson.

The process involves an initial in-person workshop at the Saint Louis University Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business followed by three months of online classes. The academic criteria were developed by the University's Emerson Leadership Institute and ADK Information Services. A new course begins March 11. Learn more about that at bit.ly/2tNSQYP.
