CPSC Misses 20% of Its FY2020 Performance Goals

CPSC missed five of 25 performance goals in FY2020, and it did not have data for two. That left 18 targets hit, or 72% success. Most of the non-hits were in the agency's four workforce goals, accounting for one miss and both data gaps. Unsurprisingly, the COVID-19 pandemic played a part in some of the misses and gaps, which included (bit,ly/3p5aMWd):

Workforce

  • CPSC had 95% of its workforce in use versus the goal of 96%.
  • It did not have data from two federal workforce surveys but will add them when available.

Prevention

  • Incident reports warranting follow-ups hit 20% versus the goal of 25%. CPSC noted that goal is contingent on the situations behind the reports.
  • CPSC completed 18,561 import examinations not 32,000.

Response

  • Violation determinations for fireworks cases were made within 70 business days 42.9% of the time versus 85%.
  • Regulatory violations for fireworks cases occurred in 75 business days 42.9% of the time versus 85%.

Communications hit all three goals.
