CPSC Warns About Tipovers in Anticipation of Super BowlCPSC January 28 noted the convergence of more time at home due to the pandemic, recent holiday purchases of TVs, and the upcoming Super Bowl to warn of the risks of death and injuries due to tipover incidents. The agency's release (bit.ly/36nhHm9) pointed to simultaneously issued data on such events (see related story).
It listed numerous mitigation steps ranging from anchoring to storing heavier items on lower areas of furniture, to keeping child-attracting items from the tops or upper areas. It asserted: "With families spending more time indoors due to COVID-19 restrictions, children are at an increased risk of injury or death from furniture and TV tip-overs…Millions will watch Super Bowl LV on February 7, and the time is now to anchor all TVs in the home, including new ones bought during holiday sales, or purchased in anticipation of the 'Big Game.'" |
