Briefs & Charts

CSUs: IKEA January 28 said it would require U.S. buyers to acknowledge the need for anchoring and to provide name and email address before finalizing sales. Store signs will announce this requirement. Signup can be via mobile devices at www.ikea-usa.com/safe. Users click a box next to the acknowledgement and give store location, first and last name, and email address.

OPSS Awards: Submit entries by April 30 for this year's Regulatory Excellence Awards from the UK Office for Product Safety & Standards (OPSS). Learn more at bit.ly/2YnAyZT.

Ammo/Tackle: The EU January 25 moved another step towards restricting lead in gunshot and fishing tackle. Its DG Growth asserted that alternatives like steel are readily available and have similar costs. The restrictions – set to go into effect after two years – target reduction of wetland pollution. However, human effects occur, including from ingestion of game and fish. There are numerous steps before completion, including a consultation set to begin in March and drafting of opinions by ECHA's committees. Timeline targets and background information are at bit.ly/2MATd1z.
