Two CPSC Challenges Rise to Attention of Federal IG Group

Two CPSC management challenges were featured February 3 by the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency. The report (bit.ly/3jBD4pe) covered such issues across numerous federal agencies. The CPSC items involved:

  • Internal Controls: The organization referred to numerous faults found by CPSC's own IG associated with unauthorized release of protected data (PSL, 10/5/20), pool grants (PSL, 10/5/20), improper payments (PSL, 5/18/20), and information security (PSL, 11/11/19).
  •

  • Enterprise Risk Management: The second – also from another CPSC IG report (PSL, 11/23/2020) – covered issues like alignment with objectives; identifying, assessing, responding to, and monitoring risks; and communication reporting.

The report simply cataloged federal challenges across numerous categories like IT, human capital, financial management, procurement, and others. It acknowledged the likely negative effects of the pandemic on agencies' abilities to address problems.
