Inclined Sleepers to Be Target of House Oversight Hearing
The House Oversight and Reform Committee June 7 will question executives from Mattel and Fisher-Price about Rock 'n Play infant sleepers.
Focus will include "grave flaws in the U.S. consumer product safety system" and "whether Fisher-Price took any steps to ensure its product was safe…and whether the company should have recognized sooner that the Rock ‘n Play was dangerous."
In 2019, following widespread attention to the product (PSL, 8/19/19), the committee launched an investigation with letters to three companies that recalled inclined sleepers as well as to ASTM, JPMA, and CPSC.
The press release for the upcoming hearing asserts: "The Committee’s investigation demonstrates why [CPSC] must be given more authority to regulate dangerous products, particularly those for infants and children, and how consumer protection laws can be strengthened." |
